The plant Kwao Krua or Pueararia Mirifica is a native herbal root found in the northern Thailand. Because of lack of overview of the availability of this miracle herb, the Thai government decided to list this herb under protected plants to ensure that foreign companies did not start to mass produce substances from this herb before full mapping over availability was done. However, since then large scale farming of Kwao Krua Kao is done under strict supervision to ensure consumers get the best possible quality. The reason to the large scale is that the best quality of the root is only harvested at the 4th year and only while the plant is flowering.

The classification of Kwao Krua is based on four varieties that are used as traditional herbs in the form of food supplement and cosmetic purpose and are listed as such Kwao Krua Kao or White Kwao Krua (Pueraria Mirifica), Red Kwao Krua (Butea Superba), Black Kwao Krua and Dull Grey Kwao Krua.
